The True Nature of God - Jon Eden Khan

God must be one of the most charged and divisive words in the English language.

A word that is as much an honouring of the sacred as it is a curse word.

A word referring for so many to an all-powerful transcendent parent who created and watches over the tragedies of human life, rewarding those who believe in him and punishing those who don’t, while still somehow managing to be unconditionally loving.

A word referring for so many others to a mythical projection of human longing that people have killed, tortured, and exploited their fellow humans in the name of for millennia.

A term used by the spiritual teacher, Adi Da, was ‘True God’.

I like this term.

I like it because it points to the fact that there is a reality to God that is fully legitimate, and yet one that utterly shatters and exists beyond the small, childlike ideas of God that human beings have attempted to relate to this reality through over the course of our history.

Yes, there are relative expressions of God. What the Trans-Himalayan teachings call planetary, solar, or galactic logoi.

But True God is what is revealed in radical awakening.

True God is the absolute reality in which the whole universe is arising.

True God is the infinity of emptiness, being, consciousness, radiance, ecstasy, power, love, compassion, and all-creative energy that has no centre or edge, no beginning or end.

True God is not gendered.

True God is not a him or her.

True God is not a parent and does not punish anyone or anything.

True God is not a source of guidance or an interventionist in human affairs.

True God does not care whether you believe in it or not, though believing can be a portal to coming closer to its reality.

True God is the ultimate, one and only self-nature, self-state, and self-condition of all and all, which exists beyond and experiences itself through all possible points of view.

From that of every atom to that of every human to that of every galaxy.

All at once. Beyond all time and space, and forever and ever, through all time and space.

True God is the absolute and ultimate consciousness that is dynamically arising as all creation, moment to moment.

As every proton and neutron, every breath, every tree, every kiss, every birth, every death, every moment of heartbreak or terror, every war, every planet, every star, every galactic super-cluster.

This is the reality spoken of in the radical awakening traditions as Brahman, Paramatman, Dharmakaya, Buddha-Nature, or Paramshiva.

This is the reality that is revealed as the true nature of one’s ever-present awareness for those who take the path of radical awakening.
